1. Start with God.
‘The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.’ Proverbs 1:7
The 'Fear of the Lord' is expressed in many ways and is the theme of the book of Proverbs. It is the secret key that unlocks the treasures of God’s wisdom.
It is not the terror of a tyrant, but the kind of awe and respect which leads us to obey him as the wisest of all. To begin or start the journey into life we must begin with God, and He must be first in everything we do. Jesus expressed it this way;
“Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Matthew 6:33
The ‘all these things’ which Jesus is referring to include the worries of our life, our food, drink, clothing, and all the things we need to experience life on this earth. Jesus reminds us that we have a loving heavenly Father who knows our needs better than we do. He will look after us.
If we put God first, we will know life, and we will know how to live. The ‘knowledge’ which Solomon points us to means understanding, wisdom, and discernment to live skillfully. He is the one that gives us the creativity, craftsmanship, competence to work well in whatever God has called us to do.
What does this look like in your life and experience?
For me, when I asked the Lord recently how I can fear him, I sensed Him saying “See me as BIG”. I am choosing to see Him as much bigger than my current life and experience.
'Don’t be a fool.'
Put him first
Seek Him in everything you do.
May you and I grow into the fuller, bigger life that He has for each one of us.
