Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the Good News of God. ‘The time has come,’ he said. ‘The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the Good News!’
Mark 1:14-15

I’ve been thinking a lot recently about what the gospel actually is. It’s the Good News of the kingdom of God coming into the world right now. The rule and reign of God, the world’s true king. The fullness of life and salvation made possible to us through the life, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus. The gospel involves, forgiveness, love, healing, hope, justice and the reality of heaven here on earth.

Whilst sitting in an Edge community bring and share meal this week with an amazing group of people, old and young, I was aware that many in the group were struggling with various life challenges and difficulties, but there was an environment of love, acceptance and an awareness of the need for God’s help. We shared bread and wine and reflected on the sacrifice of Jesus for us, and Andrea, the group’s leader, shared the powerful story of the woman caught in the act of adultery who encountered Jesus from John chapter 8. Jesus did not condemn her. He loved her, protected her, but set her free to leave her sinful life. Andrea went on to share her dream that we become ‘Good News People’. This thought grabbed me. What if the gospel is not just a message, but a people? That each one of us has the opportunity to be a ‘Good News Person’ wherever God has placed us. What does this mean for you in your situation?
May God bless us all to live the Good News out.
